Loss Analysis of PowerEsim Help Manual
|PowerEsim is a free web-based software providing power supply (SMPS) design, transformer design, magnetic design, loss analysis, thermal analysis, waveform analysis, MTBF analysis, BOM building, DVT analysis and optimization of power supply (SMPS).|
Loss analysis may be the most useful tool of PowerEsim. It sort the losses of each component user added or automatically loaded from converter, and give a break down on what kind of losses they are. User can improve efficiency or cost by just choosing different component from different manufacturer.
User can change operating condition, e.g. input voltage, output current, and component and press “Recalculate” for new losses.
A breakdown of losses is given for some component. User can have more information on how the losses of individual component come from.
For example, conduction losses of a diode means forward drop losses.
Switching losses of a diode means the sum of reverse recovery losses and reverse leakage current losses.
Losses of a magnetic component divided into three part, core losses means the total ac losses including the hystersis and eddy current losses. “Conduction losses” means the dc copper losses. Fringing & leakage flux losses means the sum of all ac losses in the copper, e.g. ac losses caused by skin and proximity effect, eddy current losses caused by fringing flux, etc.
